A Few Truths About Super Mario Bros And Zelda That Will Completely Ruin Your Childhood - View At Your Own Risk!

Super Nintendo Video Game SecretsFor those of us that were young when the Nintendo and Super Nintendo were the most popular video game consoles around, many of us grew so used to the games like Zelda, Super Mario Brothers, and other otherwise simple games. We could recite tactics, strategies, and level layouts in our sleep if needed.

I was around 6 or so when I got my first Nintendo and allowed my mind to be taken over by the beautifully colored sprites on the television screen. At that age, games were like babies. They seemed so simple in nature that you didn’t imagine it could be too complicated. At the same time, their complexities comfort you enough so that you never think to stop and break things down too far. You don’t know how they were made, but you were also happy enough to remain gleefully ignorant of the details.

I stumbled upon a few of these fun facts about some of the games I grew up on and couldn’t help but want to pass them on. Unfortunately for me though, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to see these games played again with the innocence I once had. So I warn you to leave, lest you see what cannot be unseen :)

Loyalty In The Streets - Standing By Your Best Friend Through Life and Death

December 24th, 2007 (Visited 350,760 times)

At Christmas time, we’re reminded of how important life is. The seasons can prove themselves to work just like any other time of year, never taking a day off for celebration.

I was sent these pictures of a dog standing by his companion after being hit by a car in the street. As you gather with friends and family this year, take a somber look at these photos and appreciate the chance to have your best friend hug you back.

After the accident, the dog stood toe to toe with cars until traffic came to a near standstill. I haven’t been able to get the rest of the story to find out what happened next, but as you can see, the dog drew in a crowd as people were amazed at the display of canine loyalty.

Remember this Christmas, to show your love for those you hold dear, and let them know that you care. You never know what’s around the next corner.

Even though some people regard dogs as being less important than humans, it doesn’t mean that they can sometimes be better friends than we can :(

Soo.. What Happens When You Hit An Animal At 90mph?

Car Wreck AccidentWell, it depends exactly how you hit them, where, and with what. But the short of it is that a bag of fur and flesh isn’t really a match for several tons of steel. These pictures should be proof enough of that.

Racism And Money Shots - Two Critical Building Blocks For Your Children’s Televised Education

December 11th, 2007 (Visited 157,506 times)

kids are still staring at a rapidly moving picture screen built to rape their innocent minds with carefully targeted advertisingAs a parent you get used to the “kid” channels. As far as cable television goes, shows are usually ranked in this order:

Noggin - Good, safe shows with intros detailing exactly what the kids may learn (shapes, vocabulary, etc). They describe themselves with “NOGGIN is the only commercial-free educational channel dedicated to preschoolers 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.” (link)

Nickelodeon - Mostly decent and safe but nobody’s going to call SpongeBob Squarepants educational.

Cartoon Network - Usually best for older teens. More mature content and some cool shows but also some braindead shows like Ed, Edd, and Eddy.

However, just because a channel says it’s dedicated to teaching children, it doesn’t excuse the fact that the kids are still staring at a rapidly moving picture screen built to rape their innocent minds with carefully targeted advertising. In other words, know what your children are watching.

And while Noggin is usually a safe bet for the times when you need some peace to make meals, catch up around the house, or some other task requiring quiet children, it doesn’t mean that some items won’t slip through the crack.

Oobi - You see Glue.. I see Porn…

Now, to be honest I was cracking up when I saw this. Luckily my kids were in the other room and didn’t really care what Dad was laughing so hard at. But as an adult, it’s nearly impossible not to guess what ELSE this might look like. The Soup definitely had no problem making the association…

Hacking The Grocery Store Self-Checkout - 3 Ways Thieves Are Making YOU Pay For What They Don’t

December 10th, 2007 (Visited 159,544 times)

Stealing at Walmart using The Self Checkout SystemAutomation is the new wave of the future. We have everything from our food to our own bodies implanted with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chips nowadays. RFID chips allow us to let machines handle the scanning and security. But while the machines can tell you if something hasn’t been paid for or what something is, they can’t tell you about social cues.

This new security through automation has led to a new wave of thieves who take advantage of your newfound confidence in “the system”. This is the framework for social engineering. In laymen’s terms, Social Engineering, involves using careful questions, methodical actions, and a knowledge of a system’s security to “hack” it.

So how are folks “hacking” their grocery stores? Self-Checkouts.
