Do People Really Think Before Hitting “Send”?

May 2nd, 2008 (Visited 16,634 times)

Every now and then you come across this sort of email or bulletin and just sit there and wonder… “I wonder if they bothered to think about how that looks?”

Take, for example, this instance of MySpace brilliance. Rather than beat the humor down with logical thought, I simply present this image in it’s raw screenshot form. Just take a while and let it soak in…

MySpace - Hire Me!

Would I trust her with my kids? Nah. Would I hire her? Probably not.

But I’d totally let her help me move.

Hypothetical: You Randomly Happen Upon $140,000 In Unmarked Dollar Bills – What Would You Do?

April 10th, 2008 (Visited 98,875 times)

The mind twists and contorts as it ponders a question like this. What would you do?

You’re happening down the road, when you run into this, lying on the street:

Would you return $140,000?

Well, it wasn’t a theoretical question for this man, Eli Estrada, who actually DID find the money in such a way.

Eli Estrada Found $140,000 lying on the street

Bundled together after having fallen off of a Brinks truck, he estimates its weight at around 35 pounds.

According to the story from CNN in this video, Eli returned the money, and was paid $2,000 for his good nature. Most people’s first reactions are “Is that IT?!?”, or “I would have kept it!”, or the ever-popular-on-the-internet phrase, “Two Words: Hookers. Blow.”.

DMX On Barack Obama – Sometimes It’s Best When You Just Focus On Stuff That You’re Good At…

March 17th, 2008 (Visited 132,228 times)

DMX - Rapper of the People.. LOLI love DMX. He always struck me as a real guy from the streets. The kind of guy that’d steal the shoes from your grandma, impregnate your girlfriend, and then go stab someone for being a bitch. All before breakfast. Not that I come from or really even know anything about the streets save for what gets shown on TV shows like The Wire. But still, he just seems genuinely hardcore, which is great because that’s what he sells.

But then came the TV show about DMX and it got harder and harder to respect the man’s “straight up” style. Then you come across this interview, and you start to realize more and more that this guy is just lost in space. Smoked one too many rocks, took one too many punches, and it’s getting harder to hide.

As someone who’s been closely interested in the presidential race, I can understand not being familiar with a guy like Ron Paul. But everyone knows about Obama, whether they’re voting for him or not. In the past couple years he’s grown as much instant name recognition as the Clintons have in decades.

But then again it’s important sometimes to remember that DMX sells violent gangster rap. He’s not mediating any future debates or giving speeches at Harvard. Hell, at this point, he’s probably not even sure which car is his until his handler(s) guide him to it. But the best part is that he doesn’t pretend to and we love him for it.

I’ve colored the hilarious part in the middle bright blue – but you might want to read the whole thing, it’s very interesting even if you’re not into rap.

Phoenix’s Ban On Text Messaging While Driving Proves To Be Unenforceable And Largely Pointless

Phoenix’s Ban On Text Messaging While Driving Proves To Be Unenforceable And Largely PointlessWhen I heard of this ban last year, I thought it would be a lot like the seatbelt law. Except even more useless. Seatbelt laws do save lives in some cases (where the accidents would be helped and not hindered by wearing a belt), but enforcing them is almost impossible unless the driver is pulled over for something else and still too stupid to buckle up to avoid the ticket.

The local paper had some feedback from Phoenix officers who have been tasked with enforcing this. I have to agree with their experience so far, I don’t see how it can be done without crossing the line.

Only a handful of drivers have been cited under Phoenix’s ban on text messaging while driving, largely because of a loophole that makes the ordinance nearly impossible to enforce.

Backers of a similar proposal that would make it illegal to text while driving throughout the state have lauded the nation’s fifth-largest city as a leader in efforts to curb unsafe driving.

But since Oct. 20, when Phoenix’s permanent texting ban took effect, officers have cited only three motorists, according to police statistics obtained by The Arizona Republic Tuesday. Police did not have details on the citations.

The War We All Lose – What Happens When The Internet Brings Us The Unpatriotic Parts Of The War

March 4th, 2008 (Visited 89,032 times)

United States Military - David Motari - Setting A Terrible ExampleI hate our occupation in Iraq and I’ve never really done much to hide that. I’m not anti-war at all, but you actually have to declare war, and we haven’t done that. When our administration seems to toe the line that much, it makes it seem as if there are ulterior motives. Additionally, there are “bad guys” out there far worse than Hussein was. There’s also this “Bin Laden” guy I hear we’ve been looking for before we got so busy with all that Iraq stuff.

If the economy, illegal immigration, and healthcare are really such big issues (and they are), many Americans beg for an answer as to why an Iraqi occupation is so much more important than remaining solvent, let alone prosperous.

Ramblings aside though, one of the main reasons I hate this “war” is because America can’t speak out the side of its mouth anymore regarding goodwill and democracy.

For every heartfelt soldier out there reporting via Youtube about their experience and expressing the humanity they try to bring to the situation.

We get videos like THESE.

*** WARNING: These videos contain extreme violence and cruelty on behalf of US Soldiers or US-Paid “Consultants” – Watch at your own risk ***

What spurred this story was reading about David Motari (the US Marine pictured up top), the man suspected to be the person in the below video who hurls a young dog off a cliff. If the act isn’t enough, you can even hear the dog squeal as it lands in agony. Motari is rumored to be working for Blackwater according to some comments/speculations.

What’s more.. a history and human face is given to David Motari when you read about his sister Kathleen’s pride in her brother’s service. While she doesn’t explicitly say it involved her brother, she tells a charming anecdote about US Marines frightening a civilian who works for tips:
