The War We All Lose - What Happens When The Internet Brings Us The Unpatriotic Parts Of The War

I hate our occupation in Iraq and I’ve never really done much to hide that. I’m not anti-war at all, but you actually have to declare war, and we haven’t done that. When our administration seems to toe the line that much, it makes it seem as if there are ulterior motives. Additionally, there are “bad guys” out there far worse than Hussein was. There’s also this “Bin Laden” guy I hear we’ve been looking for before we got so busy with all that Iraq stuff.
If the economy, illegal immigration, and healthcare are really such big issues (and they are), many Americans beg for an answer as to why an Iraqi occupation is so much more important than remaining solvent, let alone prosperous.
Ramblings aside though, one of the main reasons I hate this “war” is because America can’t speak out the side of its mouth anymore regarding goodwill and democracy.
For every heartfelt soldier out there reporting via Youtube about their experience and expressing the humanity they try to bring to the situation.

What spurred this story was reading about David Motari (the US Marine pictured up top), the man suspected to be the person in the below video who hurls a young dog off a cliff. If the act isn’t enough, you can even hear the dog squeal as it lands in agony. Motari is rumored to be working for Blackwater according to some comments/speculations.
What’s more.. a history and human face is given to David Motari when you read about his sister Kathleen’s pride in her brother’s service. While she doesn’t explicitly say it involved her brother, she tells a charming anecdote about US Marines frightening a civilian who works for tips:
A graduate from MHS [Kathleen’s high school] joined the Marines right out of high school. They were stationed in Hawaii doing missions up in the mountains when they got hungry. They came out of the woods and found a house and took down the address to call a pizza place. The delivery man didn’t want to come all the way up there because it was really far.
Finally they convinced him to. The Marines waited in the trees and bushes until the pizza man came. When the delivery man pulled up, all the Marines jumped out of the bushes with their face paint on and their guns. The pizza man was too scared to get out of the car! They gave him an extra tip for going through the hassle to go that far. So after, they hopped back in the bushes and ate their pizza!
As commenters on other sites pointed out regarding this:

The sound was pretty fake, it’s very obvious that the dog was already dead before it was thrown. Still, an act of idiocy, but not cruelty.

The reaction on the internet to this doggie video really made me laugh. Here you have many people like Michelle get their panties in a twist about a fucking dog but very few paid any attention by the Johns Hopkins study that indicated that our “freedom-spreadin’ mission” in Iraq has liberated upwards of 500,000 or more innocent Iraqis from their lives [yeah, I mean killed.]

You can no more compare the entire army, or the entire war to these videos than you can all the middle east to terrorists. just because there are some people that do stupid things does not mean you assume the entire army is over there doing that. but if you couldn’t figure that out on your own then you prolly already hate the war and are just looking for another reason to complain about it. so what i say won’t matter.
some of those videos arn’t even the full story, for instance the parents shot in front of their kids. it doesn’t say why, or if it was for no reason, it just says it was in front of the kids and then shows you a bunch of pictures of the kids to stir feelings up. nevermind if there was a bomb in the car, or anything else you can imagine. better not kill the bad ppl, because they have kids….
as for the animal cruelty, i will not provide an excuse, cuz there is none, but keep this in mind. all the training, combat, homesickness, fear, anger, and any other factor are all things these soldiers go through. i imagine it can really screw with your head. we hear about them coming back and having problems all the time. so is it so far fetched that maybe there head is not on right 100% of the time when they are there? or that they need some outlet. i am not justifying any of it, but seriously, would you rather it be on some prairie dog, or people?
War is hell. Americans seems to look for war. So they bring hell to earth.

one question ive always wanted to ask: why are the soldiers still out there?
Ironically, it’s a very “dog chasing tail” sort of scenario.
Even heavy right-leaning hosts like Hannity and O’Reilly now freely admit that going into Iraq was based off of flawed intel.
However, they’re also quick to say that if we left Iraq, we would allow Iran to rush in or allow Iran to act more boldly because we’re a deterrent.
So the dog continues to chase its tail because when it chases its tail, it moves. So it continues to go around and around in a pathetic display of momentum.
I’m typically a very Libertarian/Republican guy. I prefer small government, more personal freedoms, and low taxes and less government interference.
Unfortunately as we saw in this election, save for Ron Paul, just about every Republican candidate is continuing to go against the Republican fundamentals and push for more control over the Middle East at the risk of losing our own homeland.
In other words, even the true Republican voters are being misrepresented here. We’re not seeing a true Republican-based administration.
Regarding the video “US Soldiers Shoot Parents Dead In Front of Their Five Children”:
What they DON’T tell you:
-the car was approaching a U.S. military checkpoint after its allowed hours (no cars after dark)
-the post members fired warning shots up in the air, to which the car did not respond
-this military checkpoint had already had FIVE suicide car bombers
-after the warning shots, the car continued toward the checkpoint. US Army personell fired toward the windshield, but the car still did not stop.
-after the car drifted aimlessly (the parents in the front seats were killed), US Army rushed to the car.
-All SIX children were immediately checked by an Army medic. The little girl in the video suffered a small cut to her hand, and the little boy had a cut on his lower back.
-the US Army immediately prepared their convoys and transported all of the children to the Tal Afar hospital.
*** if this car was NOT stopped by military personell and it DID turn out to be a suicide car bomber, those U.S. Security Forces members would have been dead instead.***

This “undeclared occupation” we call a “War”, is more and more becoming a loss for us. It’s beginning to look a LOT like Vietnam.
The soldiers are acting on life and death instincts (the ones not shooting animals at least) in many cases and those types of situations end up with way too many innocent casualties. Both on the civilian Iraqi side and on the US military side.

I’d say that it’s more of a matter of having so many cultures you don’t have one that’s discernible.
Technically, America’s “culture” is Native American. The English, Spanish, and other European cultures invaded it and eventually blended theirs in.
So technically, America DOES have a culture, but it’s one that was here far before we were. As for a current culture, it really depends where you go. The land mass is so large that you instead have many localized cultures. Be they Hispanic, Mid-West, East Coast, California, Creole, etc.
I think culture is relative term.. what exactly defines a culture? What are the specific requirements? I don’t know that any country in the world is completely devoid of any culture. *shrug*

We’ve disagreed on a few points but I think that you’re absolutely right that the military being a viable option for those that want to “get out” of their town and go to college, etc. is part of the problem.
Many of my old high school buddies signed up when the recruiters hung out at our high school. I’m against the military doing this because you get folks who ultimately aren’t making the responsible decision to join because you’re catching them in a vulnerable position and age.
It’s effective. But I think that’s part of the problem. A parent shouldn’t have to add “the military” to the list of things to watch out for. When “military recruiters” falls next to STDs and Drugs, that’s an issue.
High schoolers should be focusing on school and not avoiding things that could affect their lives forever like signing a contract with the army, catching an STD, or getting addicted to meth.
Although I doubt anyone joins for healthcare. Taking a job at a call-center will give you an affordable healthcare plan and I doubt 90% of kids under 25 even care about having a healthcare plan. I know I always passed and just kept the extra money in my pocket. Wasn’t until kids came around that I started shelling out for that.
i understand your point but I live in a counrty were im lucky enough to have free health care, if I break a finger or (god forbid) I have a bad car crash i know i have no worries about paying for healthcare.
and i also have the luxury were i dont have to worry about a health plan to be paid every month.

we had the army visit our school when i was 14! but i think because we dont have to worry about things like this it wasnt much of a popular choice. it wasnt offering us as much as it would in the US.

and as for colleges we dont have to pay for education until we are 21.
so we dont have to worry about paying for tuition fees. thats five years free education after we leave secondery school. and you could have got your qualifiactions and be in a high paying job before you have to start paying fees.
personely i find health and education three of the most important things in life (love being the other of the three!). if they wernt that accesable to me i would proberly end up joining the army myself!!
i just think that if free education and free healthcare was a option then less people would see it as their only option. therefore less of the rong people would be in the army, and on a whole there would be more people in the army properly suited to their job, and less people to abuse their power.
