Racism And Money Shots - Two Critical Building Blocks For Your Children’s Televised Education

As a parent you get used to the “kid” channels. As far as cable television goes, shows are usually ranked in this order:

Noggin - Good, safe shows with intros detailing exactly what the kids may learn (shapes, vocabulary, etc). They describe themselves with “NOGGIN is the only commercial-free educational channel dedicated to preschoolers 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.” (link)

Nickelodeon - Mostly decent and safe but nobody’s going to call SpongeBob Squarepants educational.

Cartoon Network - Usually best for older teens. More mature content and some cool shows but also some braindead shows like Ed, Edd, and Eddy.

However, just because a channel says it’s dedicated to teaching children, it doesn’t excuse the fact that the kids are still staring at a rapidly moving picture screen built to rape their innocent minds with carefully targeted advertising. In other words, know what your children are watching.

And while Noggin is usually a safe bet for the times when you need some peace to make meals, catch up around the house, or some other task requiring quiet children, it doesn’t mean that some items won’t slip through the crack.

Oobi - You see Glue.. I see Porn…

Now, to be honest I was cracking up when I saw this. Luckily my kids were in the other room and didn’t really care what Dad was laughing so hard at. But as an adult, it’s nearly impossible not to guess what ELSE this might look like. The Soup definitely had no problem making the association…

But then again, Noggin does say it’s all about “Connected Learning”:

Hip Hop Harry - That Stupid Black Kid

Perhaps this isn’t really an issue. I mean, ONE of the kids has to play the stupid one. We’ve just become so accustomed to spotting racism in our politically correct climate that we immediately can’t help but wonder.. why it has to be the black kid? This isn’t the only screentime given to “Stupid Scott”, but it was the first I was able to catch to share.

Two small reminders that sometimes it’s not a bad idea to watch what your kids are watching on TV.. You may have to explain something to them one day!
